Beschrijving

The Gollancz/ Sunday Times science fiction competition, restricted to authors who had not previously published science fiction in book form, attracted more than one thousand entrants, many of them of a very high standard. The judges – J.G. Ballard, Angela Carter and Gollancz sf director Malcolm Edwards – chose an overall winner Paul Heapy’s ‘Moral Technology’, a witty and concise extrapolation of several trends in contemporary society; while the best story by an author under 21 was Paul Gooding’s ‘The Machine Age’, an ingenious time travel variant. The winners, together with the other stories on the final short-list, are presented in this volume, which presentsw a fascinatingly varied compendium of the kinds of science fiction being written in Britain today.
